There is an extensive third-party developer network that creates plugins to extend the functionality of Trillian Pro (sorry, plugins won't work the Trillian Basic). This works great when you have contacts with multiple accounts on different networks, and makes it easier for you to tame your contact list. These meta contacts allow you to collect all the accounts of an individual under one name - and you can give it a name that is meaningful to you. To solve this problem, Trillian introduced the concept of meta contacts. Keeping it all straight can be a challenge.

One of the challenges with most multi-protocol IM programs is that you have contacts with multiple accounts on multiple networks. There is a crowd of people who have developed custom “skins” for Trillian that make it look like other IM programs or give it personality. There are several features that really make Trillian stand out. Because the blog and forums were running third-party code in the form of Wordpress and vBulletin, we carefully isolated them from the rest of our network many years ago. No actual Trillian intrusion took place in terms of Trillian passwords, Trillian account data, Trillian messaging data (including cloud history), or Trillian billing information. Only those customers who had specifically registered to post comments on our blog or participate on our forums were impacted.

The vulnerability was specific to our deployment of vBulletin, and the intruders used this vulnerability to also extract information from our Wordpress blog. We became aware of the breach the next day, July 5th, 2016, and immediately shut down the machine and retired it permanently for further forensic analysis.
